Memorial Day Weekend, held every year on the last Monday of May, this year Memorial Day Monday falls on May 27th, 2013, the the following weekend's Lake George Elvis Festival which will be held this year Friday May 29th, Saturday, 30th, and Sunday, May 31st, in Lake George Village, is a federal holiday.  Memorial Day Weekend serves to remember men and women who have dies serving the United State Armed Forces in all wars.

Shortly after the Civil War, "Decoration Day" was established to commemorate the Union and Confederate army soldiers who perished during that war of brother against brother.  Memorial Day over time extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars.  Typically, cemeteries and memorials throughout the United States, Europe and Asia are visited by volunteers each year who place an American flag on each grave, more typically in national cemeteries.  While memorial Day Weekend serves as the official start of summer, Memorial Day serves as a day of remembrance and expression to fallen Americans.
